Electrical Safety - Safe works on construction site

Every site manager wants to set up and maintain a safe construction site. One of the common fatalities happening on construction is electricution. Much effort has been invested to strive for a safe working place. There are some basic steps which can be practiced to ensure an electrical risk-free construction site as follows:

1. Conduct inspection and maintenance of cable, equipment …regularly.

2. Electrical panel must be waterproof type and earthed

3. Electrical panel/box must be attached with circuit diagram.

4. 30mA ELCB (earth leakage circuit breaker) for 220V industrial socket.

5. 300mA ELCB for 380V industrial socket

6. All equipment shall be connected to panel through industrial plugs and sockets (direct connection to circuit breaker is not allowed)

7. All electrical panels must have warning signs and shall be attached with company’s name, person in charge and contact number. Electrical panel without such information shall be considered ownerless and removed from site by main contractor.

8. All equipments (Generator, welding machine, air compressor…) shall be attached with company name, sequential number, person in charge and contact number. Equipment without these information shall be considered ownerless and removed from site by main contractor.

9. Domestic power cables are not accepted.

10. Cables shall be hung aboveground at least 2.5m at working areas and avoid direct contact with metallic sharp material/structure. Insulation clamps/plastic cable ties shall be used to hang cable

11. Avoid electrical cables submerging in water/ laying on wet area

12. Metal frame of electrical equipment shall be earthed.

13. Neutral welding cable shall be directly clamped to workpiece. It is not allowed to clamp neutral welding cable to workpiece thru rebars/scaffolding tubes…
